Writer/Manager/Editor/Business Leader/Director/Founder - I have collected many titles over my career and continued an intentional weaving into and out of various industries over the last two decades. As a voracious learner and avid seeker of new experiences, I have sought challenges and new career paths with the goal of stimulating personal growth and working with teams and for missions with which I felt a connection. Over the years, my creative work has been featured by the National Association of Broadcasters, Panasonic, Fast Company magazine and numerous film festivals and media outlets. As a business leader, I have celebrated accomplishments working with some of the most well-known brands in the world, traveled internationally, helped companies to grow many times their original size and personally managed over $1B in revenue over the course of my career.
Through it all, my favorite moments were helping individuals and teams make breakthroughs and do things they never thought possible. If you have a business problem that’s vexing you or you’re just too busy to take it on, connect with me and let’s fix it together.
So how has my background in leadership prepared me to help you?
With much of my 20's spent as a contract writer for training and industrial production companies, I also worked extensively as a restaurant manager, helping large-scale private owners launch new restaurants and locations. This early leadership training was the genesis of my education in leading teams, managing costs, process and systems creation and problem solving. During this time I continued to tell stories and refine my love of communication via films and other digital projects I created and showcased at festivals and other venues across the United States.
Moving into corporate leadership thereafter, I enjoyed 11 years working with the largest coffee company in the world, opening dozens of new units, developing the skills and advancing the careers of scores of leaders and enjoying recognition for hallmark performance across people measures, revenue targets and other growth metrics.
After a few years traveling internationally in business development for a technology startup, I spent 8 years learning within the largest veterinary services organization in the world. I worked closely with business leaders and clinicians toward record-breaking business performance, stellar patient outcomes and developed tools and processes for a first of its kind business in the veterinary health space.
Currently, I enjoy life as a founder of a new apparel brand and retail venture focused on the sports of surfing and skateboarding. The start-up is focused on children and its products and services are steeped in a philosophy aimed at helping kids achieve confidence and identity through self-expression on waves and wheels.
So, why should a business leader with whom you're considering consulting share that he's spent time on film sets and writing fiction for print and screen? Shouldn't your consultant be 'all business' and be crunching numbers 24/7?
I'm not an 'artist' who dabbles in business nor am I a humorless drone who has led teams in the corporate world by reciting from a spreadsheet. I share my varied background here because I believe creativity plays an enormous role in leadership, financial growth and problem solving. I have personally benefited from having spent time in the disparate sectors in which I have worked and the facets of my career make me more effective at what I do. If you seek a consultant who doesn't enjoy people, ignores human behavior for the sake of metics and can't tell you their favorite buddy film (Throw Mama From The Train), I am likely not the one for you.
As business leaders, we face problems of all kinds - people challenges, economic struggles, operational headaches. I have experienced these stressful situations first hand and I come from more than a theoretical place when it comes to fixing what's broken. The services I can provide matter only after I seek to understand your situation and what success looks like for you. When determining how I can help you, the first very simple question I ponder is:
Maybe, the growth of your company has been strong but things have gotten tougher. The low hanging fruit has been picked and achieving the targets your teams previously found easy has become harder.
Or, you're a senior executive and you're feeling underwater, stressed. You've been wondering if a fresh set of eyes is required so that you and your teams can analyze your challenges a bit differently.
Perhaps you have something to say. A business proposal, a concept, a growth strategy that needs to be brought to life but you've had a difficult time extracting it from your mind and placing it on paper or screen.
As you build out a new company or create a roadmap for growth as you seek to take an existing firm to the next level, the abundance of work can be overwhelming. I have created operational strategies, field SOPs, execution plans and built highly-effective teams in both startup environments and large corporations that experienced unprecedented growth and expansion. My background includes selecting leaders, building out field personnel structures, writing KPIs, authoring processes for continuous improvement and building succession plans.
When you're seeking additional capability for your teams and you need assistance with the execution, delivery or creation of the content, I can help. From leadership coaching to root cause analysis processes or if your company is responsible for existing compliance training but you lack the time or framework to deliver it, we can cross that item off of your to do list together.
We are judged, first and foremost, by how we present ourselves and how we communicate. Having conducted thousands of change management discussions during my career, I can help you assess your organization’s needs for stronger, clearer and results-oriented dialogue. If you must grow your ability to address a room, I can help in that area as well. My experience delivering training, business content and facilitating sessions with small and large rooms can benefit you and your team. From assisting you in deciding what to say - and not to say - to working directly with you on mechanics, knowing your audience and cadence, I can coach you so that you wow the next group lucky enough to hear you orate.
Your company is up against difficult headwinds, or, you're concerned you don't have the leaders in place to take you where you need to be in the next 12, 24 or 36 months. I have lived those conditions and done the hands-on work in full firm and geographic area turnarounds. I can help with third party advice and assisting you as you triage your organization or I can work with you on the front lines, fully involved as I work with you in a structural and organizational retooling and realigning of your leadership team.
Via my years in leadership and strong relationships built with talented subject matter experts, I have access to additional professionals who can be integrated into the solution for your issue. From Human Resources to Marketing and Finance, if your situation requires deeper functional expertise, I have a team of professionals with whom I have worked and, together, we can get you were you need to go.
Reach me directly via the form below. I'll answer any questions I can via email but for detailed analysis of your situation or business challenge, a verbal discussion is necessary, often followed by your RFP or my scope of work and proposal. If you'd like to set up a call via phone or Skype, I am happy to schedule a time. Please don't email asking for rates as each situation is different and a dialogue is required to be sure we both understand our mutual needs and requirements.
Alternative to this form is a more detailed client questionnaire, available via the main navigation above. Thank you, I look forward to working with you.
